Those who visit Costa del Sol are undoubtedly enraptured by its landscape, especially those who normally live far away from the sea. Around fifty golf courses, leisure centres, culture, urban and country life, an average temperature of 18º C, a coastline of more than 160 kilometres …
This beautiful area fascinates both foreign and national visitors who follow the sun and the beach, but there is even more to discover. In recent years life quality is going up!
The city revives with new strategies
Due to the efforts of the New Town Planning Ordinance (PGOU) Marbella will experience a very positive change in the short future, the aim is being able to eliminate the problems and the lacks that affect the area’s quality for tourists and residents.
Marbella wants to recover its past legend and again become a top quality tourist destination, making the most of its nature, business and tourist resources.
The region’s most idyllic face — six million visitors per year and top-quality housing developments— wants to forget a past which is characterised by the bad infrastructures, a lack of good schools, shortage of building ground and a loss of landscape quality and natural environment.
Marbella ' Business
The New Town planning Ordinance (PGOU) suggests also a Logistic and Business Activity Park located close to La Cañada, the shopping centre and the highway.
Marbella becomes a walking town
The new plan focuses on creating a New Marbella, the major points shall be: access and mobility for all types of tracks (rail, foot, bike)- which is definitely not existing at the moment-, a philosophy which is friendly to the environment and equipments that fully satisfy the needs of both tourists and locals.
The goal is a new model of the city that links a good communication network and a large scale of projects. Some of the specific changes which should take place in Marbella are the following:
1) A second ring road will be built.
2) The boulevard in the eastern industrial lot shall be extended, so that it connects with La Cañada’s junction.
3) More parking space to the south of the old N-340.
4) The Ramón y Cajal Avenue will be changed completely into a commercial axis.
5) The whole of Puerto Banús will get pedestrian streets!
Completely prepared for the future
Additionally there will be a modernising in the following important fields: a regulation on communication norms and mobile system, the improvement of public lighting and water supply, the modernisation of electrical infrastructure and the gas network, because they have to reach energetic efficiency.
